The walls have been repaired and repainted in honour of the new and updated picture hanging system. This will make hanging the shows a lot easier. We look forward to a new show -- Spring themed -- for March, April and May. We will put out a call for art in February, but you are all forewarned: Spring is the theme, so artists, get those paintbrushes going. Photographers, look through your work and find some spring themed photos you can print and frame. Opening reception is Wednesday May 9th. "I call them Postmodern because while they are centered around the 1950's painted pinups of the great Gil Elvgren, they contain ephemera and influences from the 1920's through present day", says Bruce. Ray Bechard - Coloured Pencil/Pencil/Photography Posted Oct 6th, 2011 by Bruce Walker The Next Contest"The Grange in June" was the first contest in a series we have called "Capturing Mississauga's Heritage". The next contest -- which will reach its conclusion summer 2012 -- begins immediately. We will be celebrating the 175th anniversary of the (failed) rebellion of 1837, led by William Lyon McKenzie. Our contest involves the Mississauga portion of McKenzie's flight following his defeat at the Battle of Montgomery's Tavern. Contestants are provided with a map detailing the various points which McKenzie passed, and the location where he actually stayed for 3 nights (and was almost captured). You will be free to take pictures, paint, draw or carve your interpretation of whichever point or location you choose, and during whichever month you choose, starting right now: August. Final date for finished art to be delivered in 2012 will be announced shortly. Posted July 19th, 2011 by Louise Peacock Thanks to everyoneALFEW wishes to extend its thanks to everyone involved in the Aggregation 5 art show. First, to our friends at Heritage Mississauga for allowing us to use their space for our shows, and for organizing a lovely opening night reception, and for taking all those nice pictures! Then to all the artists who contributed their artwork to the show and for coming out to the opening night. The participation of the artists is a vital part of our shows, and will help to build the momentum we need to make this really big. We were also delighted at the interest shown by the artists in our contest to capture a likeness of The Grange either in photo, or some other art form. We are looking forward to seeing the results. Don't forget - if you haven't filled out a contest form yet, we can email you one, and that you need to get your contest entry started during the month of June, to be completed and handed in to The Grange no later than July 15. Posted May 15th, 2011 by Bruce Walker Our Artists Galleries and Windows Internet ExplorerI was able to fix a bug that was causing the Artist's galleries to malfunction for some users of Internet Explorer in MS Windows. The art galleries should work properly for anyone viewing us in IE7 or IE8, and I assume also IE9. Sadly, you still can't view the galleries in IE6, but I strongly urge you to upgrade to IE8 rather than continue struggling with IE6 anyway. Posted Mar 1st, 2011 by Bruce Walker Gallery updatesIf you are browsing with IE7 or IE8 the picture galleries may be working for you. I'd love to hear reports about that either way—thanks! I have sped up the gallery workings enormously, so if it was very sluggish for you before, please give them another try. Things will be much improved for those of you with slower connections to the web. Posted Feb 25th, 2011 by Bruce Walker Champagne TimeWell, the new http://www.alfew.com site is launched, and in fact it's almost ready. What's that you say? Oh yes, that's usually done the other way around, but I couldn't wait to just open 'er up and see what she'll do. I'm happy to get any comments, gripes, kudos and/or bug-reports that you might have about the site. Feel free to drop me a line at bruce.walker@gmail.com. Thanks! IE users: My ApologiesI'm very sorry that the image gallery feature that appears on every artist's page does not appear to be working correctly for Internet Explorer. (That's the web browser that many Microsoft Windows users view the web through.) I'm attempting to get that fixed as soon as I can, but I'm using free Open Source software (Galleria) for that function and getting that stuff serviced is iffy at best. In the meantime you could give Firefox a try, or Google Chrome or Apple's Safari ; all very fine browsers.
